MATERIALS AND CARE
ABOUT OUR LEATHER AND MATERIALS
We are an ethical and environmentally conscious company in all our processes and as such have strived to source the best quality and most eco-friendly and safest materials to use in our shoes.
We use European vegetable tanned leather. It is beautifully soft, supple and breathable. The family-run tannery we are working with is focussed on producing the most beautiful and natural leathers possible. Their focus is on the environmental impact of their leather and its production as well as creating a safe product for those who suffer allergies and sensitive skin.
You will find the surface of our solid dyed leathers is absorbent and it will darken and patina with wear. The leather will mould to the child’s feet and take on a lovely authentic worn-in look and life of its own. Each leather hide is slightly different and each pair made is unique.
It is our hope that our soft baby shoes become prized belongings and highly personal objects in their own right, with the tiny footprints that form on the bottom a lasting memory of the little feet that once wore them. These are little shoes to be treasured long after they are outgrown.
Our soft structured shoes are intended for indoor and light outdoor use. Do not let them get wet. It is a well-known characteristic of natural vegetable tanned leather that colours can transfer with abrasion, and bleeding will occur if they are allowed to get wet. For this reason, we recommend wearing with darker coloured socks.
The suede we use is also vegetable tanned.
Where shoes are made from any other leather than described here it will be noted in the product description.
The metal trim items used on our shoes are nickel free, so will not cause skin irritation.
CLEANING AND CARE
The leather we use is natural with very little surface finishing, it has a beautifully soft handle and is intended to patina with wear. We do not advise treating our shoes with any sort of chemical product as this goes against the way the leather has been developed. You can spot clean your shoes with either a damp or dry cloth. Clean them immediately that soiling occurs and do not intensely rub any single spot as it can cause the colour to fade unevenly.
Mostly we hope you enjoy the natural patina that comes with time and wear.
